At GRT Family Dental we provide high-quality, comfortable care using the latest technology.

Proper teeth cleaning is the foundation of good oral health and the prevention of gum disease, which is the #1 cause of adult tooth loss in the U.S. With thorough cleanings and patient education, we can help you keep your gums and teeth healthy.

Periodontal exam and gum disease

During your initial exam, the doctor will assess the health of your gums to ensure no gum disease is present.

Gum disease is mostly caused by poor oral hygiene, which leads to the overgrowth of bacteria that forms plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) on the teeth and the subsequent infection of the gums.

Signs of gum disease include red, swollen or tender gums, gums that bleed while or after you brush your teeth, persistent halitosis (bad breath), a persistent bad taste in the mouth, teeth moving or becoming loose, receding gums and changes to your bite alignment.

Gum Disease Treatment

Deep cleaning is a critical step in gum disease treatment. We will remove the tartar buildup from the teeth above and below the gemlike using a high-tech ultrasonic scaler, to ensure the complete removal of calculus. During this process an anesthetic is used to numb the tissue for a comfortable experience.

Antibiotic therapy for eliminating the bacteria

ARESTIN® antibiotic therapy is used to further treat gum disease as needed by killing remaining bacteria in the gums. ARESTIN contains bead-like particles filled with an antibiotic that is released over time to help kill the bacteria and heal your gums more effectively.

A thorough deep cleaning and a complete elimination of bacteria solves most cases of gum disease. For patients with advanced gum disease, the doctor will go over the options for periodontal surgery to eliminate the decay and restore oral health.
